Third Degree :: Third Degree

Oblivion Records
CD Review

By The Atomic Chaser

Third DegreeThird Degree have all of the essential elements of becoming huge! This three piece rock band from North Little Rock, Arkansas hit the mark with their powerful and amazing self-titled debut release. A collection of 11 songs, each track is distinct and highly-crafted. Wall-to-wall guitar is provided by Tim Reed; solid lead vocals by bassist Tony Raleigh; and groove laden percussive passages, executed to near perfection by Mike Smith. On top of that are the tight harmonies that really set this band apart. Harmonies so tight they will stay with you for days. Brian Wilson would be proud of the vocals and melodies that even Lennon and McCartney would be proud of as well. Third Degree have a distinct sound all their own and sound like no one, if you need a comparison think the crunch of Galactic Cowboys with the progressiveness groove of King's X. The band's self-titled debut release hooks you in and doesn't let go. From the first track "You and I" to groove laden movers like, "I'm Listening" and "Every time I Quit", you will be amazed at how good the quality of music that is contained within. Demonstrating the ability to bring rock, with a progressive melodic edge, into one seamless blend. This is a band that has great depth, sincerity and passion. This debut release marks a really promising start to Third Degrees' career. So after you listen all the way through 11 tracks, you'll find yourself recovering like someone who's recovering from a swift and hard punch to the jaw. It is a fantastic taster of what is yet to come from this amazing band. If you like solid grooves and actual singing instead of screaming, this one's for you. Third Degree is a must hear band who music must be heard.
