Love and a .38 is not to be trusted. This four piece hard rock band from Los Angeles has given rock- starved fans something to get excited about. They’ve crafted a sound that is both familiar yet fresh, blending growling guitars with catchy, emotionally powered vocals. Fueled by instinct and driven by desire, they have written songs that fans from across the rock spectrum can get behind.

As Darren Rose (98.7FM) put it, “Love and a .38 embraces the fact that they are an independent band”. Born out of a love for music, the band is no stranger to hard work behind the scenes. They have been dubbed by various industry figures as ‘the hardest working current band from Los Angeles’. Their social media interaction is second to none, which continues to generate a global mass of not just followers, but dedicated fans that find themselves interacting with band members on a daily basis.

In an age of instant gratification, you have to not simply adapt to change, you have to embrace and lead the change. This effort is noted by Love and a .38’s recently conceived ‘Single Of The Month’, in which the band is writing, recording and releasing a new song every month. It is this type of forward conceptualizing combined with endless writing and self sufficiency that can only catapult the band beyond the horizon.

With devoted fans on five different continents, the band has been featured in film, radio and television. Music Connection Magazine recently called them one of the ‘Hot 100’ bands of the year, the world famous Roxy Theatre called them one of their ‘Top 20’ acts of the year. The band’s first album release, produced by Ian MacGregor (The All American Rejects, The Ataris, Miranda Cosgrove), has gained in excess of 1 million online plays, and is at worldwide sales of 20,000 as an independent artist. The band released its first music video to their single ‘Rock N Lola’, which gained over 35,000 views in only a few months, as well as a spot on regular rotation at Hard Rock Cafe’s everywhere. Their self titled album can be heard in various films, NASCAR, and is currently on regular rotation at numerous stations on terrestrial, satellite, and internet radio.

Love and a.38 has shared the stage with bands from across the music spectrum, including Tom Morello, Matt and Kim, Camp Freddy, Macklemore and many more. They’ve recently played a series of exclusive showcases at South By SouthWest (SXSW) in Austin,TX, completed two West Coast tours, a Midwest tour, and took part at The Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) as a featured band alongside Marilyn Manson, The Offspring, Bad Religion and many more.

Energizing and driving, Love And A .38 are the real deal and is a MUST hear for true rock music fan. The band is currently writing and recording their first full length album, due out later this year.

The Rocker and I shot off a few questions off to Love And A .38 bassist, Justin Emord about what we can expect on the record. Here’s what Justin shared with us…

What can we expect on the new album?

“You can expect the same raw rock n roll spirit and attitude that has carried on through the band’s existence since day 1 on this album but with some more Aerosmith and Jet influence. “

Justin Emord of Love And A .38How have you as a band evolved on this album versus your previous outings?

“Every song and album we put out, we try to grow as a band and with this new album, the growth and maturity in our songwriting definitely shows through. There’s been a lull in the rock community for a long time, everything that’s popular has been very safe sounding and we just want to bring back that excitement and energy that’s been lacking and hopefully this album will do that.”

Will you be doing any covers? If so, what song or songs will it be? How many song will be on the next album?

“No covers or special guests on the album, just the 4 of us playing our own brand of rock n roll and we hope everyone can sit back and enjoy the ride.”

When will it be released and do you have a title?

“We’re aiming for a fall/winter 2013 release for the record, a single or two most likely will be released before the album is.”

What goals have you set for yourselves as a band in 2013 and beyond?

“We are looking to release some new music videos and do extensive touring in support of the album across America, the UK and regions beyond. To us, the sky is the limit as far as what we can accomplish.”

The Rocker and I believe that Love And A .38 promises to be one of the hottest new rock bands to arrive on the rock music scene. As they proved with the release of their self titled album. With a true old-school, hard rock edge that is almost impossible to come by in today’s market. These boys give a refreshing slant on the current trend. If you like no-frills rock, get your hands on their music and crank it for all it’s worth. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks to Justin Emord for sharing with us. Cheers!
