Richie Onori – “The Days of Innocence”

Review by Joey Alkes

“Ooooh The Sweet,” my wife Patricia says…and then Richie Onori’s (the current Sweet drummer and creator of Onori Guitar Straps) most recent CD The Days of Innocence takes off pulls at my heartstrings with “It’s Raining In Hollywood” and then almost continually boogies like you might expect from an artist who comes to the music from the drum kit. Richie adds horns, singers and strings, and hooks that would have done Sweet producers Mike Chapman and Nicky Chin (Pat Benatar, etc.) proud.

Too many good songs here to identify all, but my list of faves, beside “Hollywood…” includes  “Running Down the Devils Road,” “Gypsy Rose” and the album-ending “Toy Soldiers.” Richie, who has been a mainstay of the music industry for years, enlisted a huge assembly of known musicians and singers to add fullness to his slew of retro 70s pop played with the fervor of the Blues. And as you might expect, one cannot hear a note out of place, but you can hear every note. Being the veteran that he is, Richie Onori’s musicality creates a collection of music that is worth the purchase for any consumer that enjoys an authentic artistic expression that you can also dance and sing to.    www.richieonori.com
