If you like bangin’ your head to metal bands like Queensryche, Scorpions, Dio and Black Sabbath, mix in the “Big 4” like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax, then I know you will dig DistortedFate for sure. The songs have great metal vocals, devilish exorcist-type screamz, clever jump hooks, battering percussions, old-school speed metal progressions and assassin-style melodic lead guitar shred in the styles of Randy Rhodes and Michael Schenker.Scott Thomas/CASHBOX

Prior to that the hard rock quartet plays some warm-up club dates in the Southern California vicinity: Universal Bar & Grill, 4093 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, Saturday, May 7, 12 midnight, $7, (818) 766-2114 or www.universalbarla.com; and with The Iron Maidens at Paladino’s, 6101 Reseda Blvd., Tarzana, Saturday, June 4, 9 pm, $10 (through the band), $13 (door), 818-342-1563 or www.paladinosclub.com.

The band’s recent CD release Haunting has been the recipient of some great reviews  from the hard rock media. Respected U.K.-based rock ‘n’ metal magazine METALLIVILLE had this to say: “Yet today we still get a few speed metal machines form the sunshine state and while most of them have turned out to be so-so imitations that just wanted to remind us the scene ever existed, one or two actually come at us with their complete heart for it intact. DistortedFate’s style sets the clocks back to the good old days but with genuine intent – they’re every piece as old-school as the great names of the time and do them the justice their believers hope to see.”

DistortedFate are currently nominated for  “Best Band In the US” entry  by Radiobuzzd–  vote by texting “90201” then enter the code “103168”  – and its completely free!!

Somewhere in the high desert, a new brand of steel has been forged fusing together modern and classic in-your-face metal. DistortedFate started deep in California’s Antelope Valley in 2006. Drummer Brian Banner and guitarist Bob Spears had played together for years in a speed metal band called Forewarned, and continued to jam together. Long-time friend Mike Weinberg had done some guest vocals for Forewarned in the past, and when he came to the studio for the first time, the trio wrote two songs and realized they had something special. Next, the long search for a bass player began.

One day, Brian brought along Aaron Cross, a band mate from the Iron Maiden tribute Seventh Son (and drummer for death metal band Epicedium). Aaron wrote the bass lines for the two songs in a couple of hours. The earth shifted, forces aligned, and DistortedFate was born.

The band cut its musical fangs at several shows in the L.A. area and released a homemade demo in 2008. They were focused on hitting the big time and realized they needed professionallyproduced tracks. Luckily, DF hooked up with an amazing producer, Matt Gruber (Queensryche, Scorpions), and their 10-song CD Haunting was completed in September 2010.
