Pretty Boy FloydPretty Boy Floyd – Steve Summers Puts Out For All Access On Landing Drummer Vik Foxx And Their Big European Tour

We landed some time with Steve Summers, the lead singer of Los Angeles rock n’ rollers Pretty Boy Floyd. Summers gave us the details on life with new drummer Vik Foxx, and life on the road with Pretty Boy Floyd.

All Access magazine (AAM) WHAT DO YOU THINK IS KEEPING GLAM ALIVE?

Well, you can’t get rid of bands like Kiss, Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper. You know, the legendary ones, they aren’t going anywhere. Hit records or not, they started all of this and there are kids all over the world just getting into that stuff with the Internet access, you know YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, etc. So they find Guns n’Roses, they find us, they see Motley Crue, they see us. So it’s great, it’s never going away, it just depends on the level it will stay. Glam Rock, Hair Metal, whatever you wanna call it, was one of the biggest things in the 80’s and chance for people to bang their heads, that fun will never go away.

AAM: I UNDERSTAND YOU JUST GOT VIK FOXX IN THE BAND. HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

Pretty Boy FloydYeah, Pretty Boy Floyd is one of the few bands that have pretty much never took a break, maybe a lineup change or two but hey, besides the shows, babes and booze it is a biz, so like any other biz we are always looking for fresh new blood and Vik Foxx is one of the best Glam Rock drummers with flash that there was. We dug his work with Enuff z’Nuff and Vince Neil and he just happened to be freed up at a great time for us, so we took him aboard and it will be a great addition to us and the fans. We’ve known Vik for years. He’s just been tied up doing stuff with The Veronicas, he’s on the down low with that, so he was our first choice and he was especially happy that we are one of the few bands that still look glam, you know, long ass hair, big show, etc. So it’s a great fit.

AAM: YOU’RE GOING ON A EUROPEAN TOUR. WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU PLAYED? HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU PLAYED EUROPE?

Yeah, we will be doing a few weeks here and there, coming up through Europe in November, December and January. You can find all dates on our MySpace (www.myspace.com/prettyboyfloydband). We’ve been over there plenty of times, seems like once a year for the last ten years with bands like Faster Pussycat, Bulletboys, Britny Fox and a bunch of other Glam Rock bands of all levels.

Pretty Boy FloydAAM: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FANS YOU HAD TWENTY YEARS AGO AND THE ONES YOU HAVE TODAY?

The differences between fans today and before are different all over the world. I mean, Pretty Boy Floyd has a cult following all over the world. The kids could be like 15 years old in say, Sweden and they dig us, Guns n’Roses, Metallica, all that Rock stuff, so it’s great. I mean, we travel places and our shows look like it’s the Sunset Strip in 1985, it’s great. And you know the older fans will always be there just as long as we keep rocking and putting out great material and killer live shows.

AAM: WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE BANDS?

Me personally, I like all kinds of music but hey, if I was on a deserted island, I would take all old Van Halen, some Zeppelin, but like I said, I like it all from Avenged Sevenfold to Pantera to, hey man, I’m into some good Journey at times, but really all kinds, there’s really not a style I don’t like, it depends on my moods, you know. Bring on crazy Miss Gaga, throw down some Zombie, give me some 50 Cent. It all depends. I got a lot of moods throughout the day.

AAM: DO YOU HAVE ANY FUNNY TOUR STORIES?

Tour stories, hell man, we have done it all, we might not have the millions, but we have sure toured the world like it. C’mon, the tour buses, the hotels, the ladies, the partying, as they say in that song, we party like Rock Stars and there is no stopping Pretty Boy Floyd.

AAM: WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON TOUR?

Favorite tour stories, I mean, we’ve played so many places and to having fans meet you at the airport 20 years later, to the girls still sneaking backstage, to all the sites we get to see. I mean, there isn’t one favorite, there’s hundreds, and more to come for Pretty Boy Floyd.
