Love RideThis year’s Love Ride took riders back to where it all began. The Calamigos Ranch in the Malibu hills, site of the original Love Ride back in 1984.Limited to only 1,000 riders, this historical event to benefit Autism was a “sold out” success!

It all began back in 1981 when Oliver Shokouh- owner of Harley-Davidson/Glendale decided to put together a fundraising event and hold it back behind his shop. Now the world famous LOVE RIDE, is a part of California Bike Week, and is the largest 1-day motorcycle fundraising event.

Love Ride Retro 2010 was held on Nov. 7th   and attracted more than 2,000 people, all who dug into their pockets and contributed to Autism Speaks, a worthy charity for autistic children.

“The retro ride exceeded all our expectations this year, along with many tireless volunteers who gave their time and energy to make this year’s event a huge success,” said Oliver Shokouh.  The Love Ride has raised over $20 million for various charities throughout the years, and approximately $250,000 was raised just at this year’s event.  Below are a few names to be recognized for their fundraising efforts:

The top five fundraisers were:

  • 1st place – Mark Cheeley
  • 2nd place – Jim?&?Kitti?Carnes
  • 3rd place – Bill Clark
  • 4th place – Gerard McKenzie
  • 5th place – Ken Vest

Love RideRobbie Krieger-(The Doors) and Scott Medlock (Comedian/Musician) donated two unique items as part of a Live Auction held during the middle of Robbie Krieger’s concert.  Diana Contrino and David Hovely were the highest bidders on both the Robby Krieger autographed guitar and the Medlock portrait of Dick Butkus.  With a charitable mindset, the painting was donated back to Love Ride to be re-auctioned

Jared Schultz is Love Ride’s poster-child.  Jared was diagnosed with Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy in 2007 when he was six years old and that same year Jared became the poster child for the Love Ride Foundation. Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy attacks the muscles, including the heart and lungs, which is the typical cause of death in children with this disease.

More than 2,000 opportunity tickets were sold, and Jared pulled the winning ticket for the 1996 Bruce Springsteen autographed guitar.  The lucky winner was Will Mynster, a principle at Collett Elementary School with the Alvord Unified School District near Riverside.  Mynster works with some Autistic children at his school and understands the charitable need for autistic families.  He also seems to know a thing or two about guitars and music, which makes the value of this prize even more priceless.

Love RideLove Ride Retro 2010 held at The Calamigos Ranch was a huge success, admission was only $100.00 and your ticket included a BBQ lunch and drink. Riders were greeted by FREE hot dogs, popcorn, hot coffee and plenty of water. Plus seconds for those that wanted it. No one went home hungry or thirsty!

Proud sponsors of this year’s event included 95.5 KLOS- Talk Radio, 790 KABC Radio, blackline GPS protect-share-connect, Quick Throttle, Thunder Press, Coors Light, Miller Light, Urbanmoto magazine, CommCinema, Printefex, Water Wellness Center and All Access

One thing’s for sure, beg, borrow or rent a bike. EVERYBODY was looking forward to riding in the LOVE RIDE again!

A BIG thanks to Oliver-owner of Glendale Harley for bring the Love Ride full circle and back to where it started. “We’re going to stay here, till they kick us out” says Oliver Shokouh Founder/ chairman of the Love Ride, and owner of Glendale Harley-Davidson. It couldn’t have gone any better!
