Surefire :: Surefire
CD Review
By Meijin Bruttomesso
Blending a bevy of beloved musical tendencies, Brooklyn’s Surefire combine inspirations on their self-titled debut album into a sound that will appeal to a spread of generations. Extracting the best elements of their roots, Surefire highlight classic hard rock grit on “The Mountain,” draw from guitar heroes on “She’s Golden,” touch on a Southern rock twang and ease audiences with soothing acoustic strums on “Sea Song,” uplift with traces of legendary drum licks on “Comeback Kid,” and emphasize the band’s sultry, swinging blues roots on “Lucy.” Surefire’s foundations are somewhat apparent to mature rockers, but for those unfamiliar with the golden age of rock, the band crafts these retro influences into a crash course for present-day listeners adding Surefire’s own edge with a stand-out vocalist and memorable hooks that will entertain and grow with today’s young rock enthusiasts. www.surefireofficial.com
