Social Hero :: The Famous
CD Review
By Meijin Bruttomesso
New York City’s five-piece, Social Hero undertake a self-assigned mission: “to rock as hard as [they] can.” A spin of “The Famous” demonstrates that Social Hero’s mission was accomplished. Heroes for head bangers, Social Hero also champion artful melodies and danceable, high-energy instrumental interplay. On “Evening Gown,” crisp guitar chords are interspersed among ethereal vocals while “Better Day’s” reverb erupts into echoing guitar arpeggios, revealing a penchant for psychedelia. Harder hits, “Recognition,” “Mosquito Attack,” and “Runway” blast into shredding guitars, pounding bass, and addictive backbeats, and showcase Social Hero’s “mission.” However, the quintet does not limit themselves to rock. They round out “The Famous” with an a cappella, chorale-style “Keep Telling Yourself.” “The Famous” verifies Social Hero's authenticity and their power to keep the genuine rock ‘n roll spirit alive in today’s music world. www.socialhero.com
