Trinumeral Festival
Live Review
Review & Photos by David Oppenheimer
A numerical concept based on the calendared phenomenon that occurs at the turn of the millennium has spawned into an awesome festival. Trinumeral is a concept based on dates having three repetitive numbers. This year’s Trinumeral Festival, the 999 is based on the date having three nines, 09/09/09. Highlighted by electronic music that lasts into the dawn, the 2009 Trinumeral Festival was a huge success featuring many local as well as national and international performers. Sun Ra Arkestra made came out in full stride with the 13 member band mesmerizing the audience with their
experimental acid jam improvs. Sun Ra Arkestra was formed in 1934 and many of the band’s members have 4 or 5 decades performing with the Arkestra. Asheville based DJ Bowie closed out main stage on Saturday starting his performance at 3am. Other notable performers included The Glitch Mob, The Egg, Toubab Krewe and Béla Fleck with Zakir Hussain, & Edgar. RJD2, Conspirator, Pretty Lights and The Heavy Pets added to the festival’s electric lineup. The festival was held at Deerfields in Horseshoe, North Carolina which is close to Asheville. The beautiful venue is nestled in the forest. The two swimming ponds were still warm from summer, and the water was refreshing for many whom took the plunge. The weather stayed mostly overcast but the rain held up during the whole weekend.
