'77 :: 21st Century Rock
Weight Recordings
By The Atomic Chaser
This is the band that does the retro 70's cock-rock rebirth right? Forget Jet and all the wannabes, the '77 don't just nail it, they take it back to the hotel-room and turn it inside out! Take MC5 and Grand Funk Railroad with AC/DC and you'll have an idea where these guys came from. But it ain't re-hash, it's real. They're not stealing riffs, they're just the modern extension of all that, what those bands would be playing if they started today. It seems incredible, but if one listens to what seems like an unprecedented record of Australians who had never seen the light. If even the titles of the tracks demonstrate his love for the band of brothers Young. Production may be the weakest point of the disc, but it has its retro charm that enhances the product. It is impossible to hear the disc without breaking out the air guitar, while tracks like "Gimme Rock and Roll" or "Big Pig Smoker" are blasting out of your speakers. Pure power. A stroke of riff and, at all times, respecting the patterns of school hard rock Australian, undertaken with cuts like "Shake It Up" in showing that the compositions have ample quality. If I could choose a cut that stands out, it would be the bluesy "Let the Children Hear Rock and Roll". "Double Tongued Woman" is another off the throttle rocker that demands to be cranked at full volume, the overall level of the entire album. This album is a must-have for lovers of classic seventies rock, but it's also a keeper for modern hard rock fans; retro without sounding dated or tongue-in-cheek. With a debut album this good, I want to hear what they do next.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
