Stone Axe :: Stone Axe
Roadburn Records
By The Atomic Chaser
Stone Axe would definitely be able to bump and grind with other stoner rock luminaries, such as; Kyuss, Fu Manchu, and Black Sabbath, but still come off like their own monster with a new set of teeth. On record, Stone Axe is powered by, Dru Brinkerhoff on vocals and former Mos Generator frontman, Tony Reed playing all the instruments. When the band play live the band features Mike Dupont on bass and Mykey Haslip on drums. What Stone Axe has done here with their self-titled debut release is awakened the slumbering heavy music scene. Bridging the soulful and technical as herculean, yet incisive songwriting, effortlessly fused with an expansive and emotive tenor. Creative, distinct, graceful and strong. Rarely is rock so pure and hard-hitting. There are no throwaway tracks here, so I'll just cover a few highlights. "Riders of the Night" is a massive opener that sets the tone of the slabs of unbridle rock that awaits you. Then you have, "Black Widow" that echoes something Humble Pie or Cream did back in the day. While the whiskey soaked swagger of, "Diamonds & Fools", will just knock you off your ass! Throughout the album you can expect to be steamrolled with a great stoned rocking vibe that rumbles in your chest and throbs in your brain. Inarguably one of the most exciting new bands to hit the rock music scene, Stone Axe is an explosive, unbridled force. With an ageless magnificence and rich musical imagination, this debut release is an unabated testimonial to the band's earthshaking ability to rock. Stone Axe's thundering musical muscle and talent come together as one and deliver heavy, organic music that melds exhilarating ambitiousness with a well-honed accessibility. Stone Axe isn't just a band you hear, it's something you feel deep down. Its pulse affects you.
