The Looking’s new release, “Cabinet of Curiosities,” offers an interesting spin on Americana and alternative music. The band consists of Todd Carter on vocals, guitar and piano, Brandy Wood on bass, Tony Graci on drums and John Andrews on guitar.
“Burning Doves” and “The World is Calling” sound more like traditional Americana music, with flowing, upbeat and sometimes twangy instrumental rhythms, combined with Carter’s soft, consistent yet effective voice. “Invitation” sounds more alternative, with repeating instrumental noise beats, guided by sentimental love lyrics. “Inside a Bunny” is slow-paced and more abstract from the rest of the recording, as it concludes the 11 tracks. You can sense that Todd Carter shaped this album through a wide range of influences, from country to punk to opera. “Cabinet of Curiosities” is available through Astraea Records.
