This year’s ROCKSTAR Mayhem Fest 2009 was UTTER CHAOS! Three stages with some of the best bands in metal and the death-defying motocross stunts of Metal Mullisha certainly gave fans plenty to be occupied with. Held at the scenic in San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore, the temperature was a raging 100 degrees by the time both the media and fans gathered at the gates awaiting entrance, sometime around Noon. A rail-thin twenty-ish male dressed in full nun's outfit was only one of many oddly-attired fans, making the Festival that much more of a kick in the butt!!
As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a group of people looking to have a great time like us; they offered us a few beers and we all hung out in the shade trying to beat the Southern California heat. When it came time to go in we were feeling good and ready for the MAYHEM!
Metal Mullisha was INSANE! With the skill and guts to match they pulled off some wicked
tricks that had everyone’s jaws dropping to the floor. Music-wise, Death Metal veterans Cannibal Corpse put on a bone-crushing show, and the Mosh pit during CC's set looked like a whirlpool of bodies that would explode with each string from their guitars and beat of their drums. The Main Stage did not disappoint with an awesome lineup to rival any festival that has been hosted in Devore in recent years. Veteran metal band Slayer completely obliterated the stage with their destructive presence and thrashing vocals, horns up high as they gave everyone in attendance a show to remember. Headliner Marilyn Manson dressed to impress as usual and offered a powerful performance that immersed you into his world of twisted despair.
Concert promoters Live Nation and sponsor Rock Star managed to create an awesome festival that was affordable to everyone in this struggling economy, with some of the best bands in metal once again this year! It makes one's mouth water in anticipation of next year’s lineup! Here’s to many more years of Chaos, Destruction, and MAYHEM!
