Maylene & The Sons of Disaster :: III

Ferret Records

Maylene & The Sons of Disaster :: IIITheir 2005 eponymous debut ignited a tumult of touring, including the 2006 Vans Warped Tour and spots alongside P.O.D., Throwdown, and Zao. They were listed as one of Alternative Press's Bands You Need To Know for 2007 and named one of Metal Hammer's Hot 100: Metal's Most Important Troops for 2007. Their sophomore release, "II" didn't disappoint, and now "III" surges forward with as much savage twang and fearsome melody to inspire the wrath of any just god. A barrage of crunch and stomp, a tirade of licks and rapid fire snares. If you're a newcomer to Maylene & The Sons of Disaster then I suggest you just go ahead and get your hands on all three albums and experience one of the more awesome "under the radar" bands out there. Who would have thought that Southern Rock could get so heavy and insane with catchy pounding goodness? It almost takes a step towards classic rock and then at the last second it's all like "Hey, I'm gonna rip your face off instead." this album is another hit from the band. The first album was great, the second was awesome, and the third is just as great. They still have the same sound pretty much in most songs, but some are a bit different which are great. Some having Dallas singing like he used to for Underoath instead of all the yelling which is cool. "Just a Shock" was the first song that was leaked and it is great. Standout tracks; "Last Train Coming" and "Step Up" and "Listen Close", this is the one where you can actually hear him more clearly than his other lyrics. It is nothing short of amazing. "Step Up" has Dallas singing with a different tone which is very cool. If you liked The first and second albums, definately get this album, you won't be disappointed. A few banjos thrown in with a bit of clean singing from Dallas along with their Skynyrd from hell three guitar attack and you've got an excellent release that in the end unfortunately, will only see the light of day for metal music lovers willing to experience more than your everyday hardcore metal release. Definitely one of my favorite cds this year.
