Trevor Menear :: Self Titled
CD Review
By Kim Thore
“Introducing Trevor Menear” is more than aptly named as an introduction it certainly is… a beginning and prologue to the Chicago-based guitarist and vocalist who has managed to produce a self-title debut that wows more than it wans.
Blues? Pop? Buble if he had a soul? All of this and more as Menear has a sticky sweet expressive voice and first-rate delivery. As a guitarist, Menear is equally accomplished but you’ll have to pay attention to hear his nuances. While the cd overall is a home run, the one detractor is that periodically, the production is a bit murky which puts a slight glaze over the music. Granted, the plus is Menear’s vocals are loud and clear and they can stand on their own, but are definitely more enhanced and supported by his inventive and sensual guitar work.
Melodious, lyrical and bluesy, “Introducing Trevor Menear” whets your appetite immediately and only makes you ravenous by the time track 14 arrives.
Stand out tunes include “Suffer to be Simple”, “Arms of Your Love” and “Reason to Leave”.
With this kind of introduction, “Introducing Trevor Menear” may just prove to be a musical friend for life.
