When news hit the internet a couple of months ago music lovers worldwide were baffled, curious, dumbfounded (and for myself), elated at the announcement of a new “Mega Group” who seemingly appeared overnight.
With an eclectic, multi generational line up, Tinted Windows have been the talk of the town the last several weeks and I was ecstatic to get an advance copy of their Self Titled Debut in my hands just a few days ago.
Tinted Windows are: Taylor Hanson (Hanson), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), and Bun E. Carlos (Cheaptrick).
Yes, this intriguing assortment of talents have not only created a huge viral buzz online but also have played a handful of coveted spots at Austin’s infamous SXSW and have even delightfully surprised many onlookers and naysayers with a healthy dose of something fun and fresh.
With 11 tracks on the disc, my only mild disappoint is the length at 35:07 minutes. This CD is undoubtedly a high octane bounty chock full of ear candy, simply put: Tinted Windows are Power Pop Rock at its finest.
The opening track and first single is “Kind of a Girl” which is a smart and slick song loaded with juicy guitar riffs and sugar sweet harmonies. A video compliment has already been shot for the single and you can view it at the bands website, with a video for the 2nd single “Messing with My Head” in the bag these guys sure don’t waste time.
Since this entire CD is truly full of hook filled songs it’s hard for me to pick one or two favorites but I highly recommend: “We Got Something” (Summertime anthem in the making anyone?), “Can’t get a Read on You” (a little edgier with in your face guitar-Go Iha!) and “Take Me Back” which (in my opinion) is neck in neck with “Without Love”… See? I told you it’s hard for me to pick, honestly, how often can you find a CD with THAT MANY great songs? As it appears you may not have to look any further than Tinted Windows…
