Great White :: Rising
Shrapnel Records
By The Atomic Chaser
Great White are back and in full force with their latest release, 'Rising', the band's second release since reforming the original lineup of the band. One member has left the ranks,,Sean McNabb,who was replaced by new bass player, Scott Snyder (Accomplice). But vocalist Jack Russell, guitarist Mark Kendall, keyboardist Michael Lardie and drummer Audie Desbrow remain intact. On their latest release, the band continues to carry the torch for true rock fans out there! Great White were never pretenders. The strong opening track ‘Situation’ proves that point, but it has to be said, that on this ‘Rising’ the harder elements are more or less totally disappeared from the music and that more acoustic components are taking over the song material. Then you have "Danger Zone" another tough rocker that comes across fresh and includes solid guitar playing from Kendall. Russell provides the tender moments with "Sanctuary" and "Shine." When it comes down to it, it's all about the music moving the listener. I can say that after one listen, this recording moved me. Despite having the goofiest cover in the band's career, it contains a lot of solid songs and good music and that's what counts. 'Rising' is a great testimonial to the overall talent,style,and magic that Great White brings to rock music fans all over the world. The songs are mature and well written, both musically and lyrically. This is exactly what you want from a Great White album. Honest, straight-forward rock and roll. To the guys in the band, please keep it coming! Believe it or not, there are still bands out there that write music that touches people on different levels that can be a combination of happiness, sadness, anger, and excitement all at once. Great White shows that it can definitely still be done. It just takes a little "old school" experience.
