The Leo Project :: Every Song Reminds Me
CD Review
By Kim Thore
With a little less than four years under their musical belt, The Leo Project has put forth an admirable cd that belies their formative years and suggests they have been hard at work developing an attention grabbing sound that tips its toes into a pool of rock, metal and noteworthy pop. After track one, the listener is more than willing to go into the deep end.
“Every Song Reminds Me…” is the second album from this Midwest foursome and is a collaborative effort with producer Fred Archambault (deftones, Avenged Sevenfold). Lead singer Tyler Lyon is a more than respectable vocalist, demonstrating true emotion in his delivery, still, Archambault’s dry vocal approach does Lyon a disservice and keeps the tracks from having an added punch… not absolutely necessary but then musical garnish can add more lasting flavor.
“Every Song Reminds Me…” defies their acoustic beginnings, and production issues aside, the combination of Lance Bennett (percussion), Sean Hamel (bass) and Creighton Bibbs on lead guitar is just the right setting for Lyon. With a nod to ZZ Top’s uncomplicated but tight composition, The Leo Project, have produced a twelve pack of rock that is easy to consume yet a challenge to your typical rock palette.
