1969 :: Maya
1969
By The Atomic Chaser
It all started when Michael Guy Chislett of The Let's Go Out Tonites and The Academy Is fame, asked Butch Walker to do a band thing with Darren Dodd, the drummer from The Let's Go Out Tonites, the next thing you know the trio formed the band 1969. The band's name is not just a year, or a Bryan Adams song, but a real band! Wow! Gather 'round children and learn the tale of this wonderful little secret sound explosion. 1969's debut release, 'MAYA' combines the music and song writing of Michael Guy Chislett with Butch Walker's amazing vocals and production talents. What comes forth from this coming together is an amazing audio experience that as you, the listener, will enjoy immensely. From the opening, "Why The Suspense?" that segues into the driving anthem of "Wreck Me" to the slow ballad of "Save A Place", 'Maya' is a wonderful listen from start to end. If you're expecting a smiling, 70's vibe to the music then you'll be quite surprised. "Maya" is an album that stands up as music for the present time, but while listening, you can tell that this is the type of music that will hold up years to come. Butch Walker has an uncanny ability to find that awesome hook for just about each and every song, but the difference for 1969 is that much of that hook is carried by the guitar & music, as opposed to Butch Walker's vocals and lyrics like it was in a lot of his solo material or his work with Marvelous 3. All in all, for 1969, Butch Walker is still Butch Walker and 1969 is simply an amazing band.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
