Megadeth :: Anthology: ”Set the World Afire”
Capitol Records
By Christian Cipollini
What? Another Megadeth collection? Indeed, but for fans of good ol’ thrash metal maestro Dave Mustaine, there’s never enough. Okay, it’s fair to argue Anthology is probably most suited for those seeking a “best of” compilation, or simply the casual metalhead listener. Whereas the big box set, Warchest, packed with tons of live and rare ammo, was arguably more intended for the diehard collector, this 2-disc release offers a considerably good range of memorable and easily recognizable studio tracks plucked from albums Killing is My Business to Risk. The touch of a few rare, live and soundtrack recordings is welcomed, but doesn’t overwhelm the record, so the pace remains on a “best of” course (though not including anything from most recent few records). It goes almost without saying, but the white-hot 80’s classics “Peace Sells,” “Devils Island,” and “Anarchy in the UK” are present, as are later hits such as “Skin O’ My Teeth” and “Trust.” Mustaine had been busy re-mastering all the vintage albums since 2004, so expect this anthology be built upon the updated, technically refined editions. A few track omissions may have some fans scratching their heads (Good Mourning/Black Friday and Dawn Patrol for example). But again… if you seek the most popular, or familiar anthems dating from 1985 thru 2000, then Anthology Set the World Afire is absolutely the way to go.
