Rock The Bayou :: Slickfist
Former Site of Astro World – Houston, Texas
By Susan Thorsen
Slickfist took the stage at Rock The Bayou in Houston, Texas in next to unbearable heat in the mid-afternoon heat of the day (and I mean HEAT) and still managed to pull of a very high energy, rocking set.
Hailing from Temple, Texas, Slickfist’s longevity as a band and their professionalism was clearly evident throughout their polished set of original tunes. They did play one cover song, The Eagles’, “Those Shoes” – an excellent rendition that they’ve captured so well in their own style, that The Eagles probably couldn’t have done it much better themselves.
I do have to say, Slickfist caught my eyes and ears with their romping rock from quite far away. These guys are different. A four-piece with extraordinary balanced
sound, Slickfist throws out some outstanding guitar riffs and harmonizing vocals between Bill Lutz and Lee Williams taking hard rock back to square one in style. Tom Gidley’s drumming along with Chris Farrell’s bass playing really complete the back beat with a forceful but controlled.
This band is one I can really appreciate as a band that can pull off playing hard rock and still draw a crowd – a tough task these days. Their original music (available for sale – see cd review) is performed just as it sounds on their very well produced cd. Along with new, unreleased songs, “Highwire Walkin’”, “Naked” and “Fly Away”, Slickfist played “Get Off”, “Break Me Down”, “Figure It Out”, “Simple Life”, and “Feelin’ Strange” off their recently released, second album entitled, “Subharmonic Addiction”.
