Cockpit
Rock The Bayou with “Girl Power”
Review and photos by Susan Thorsen
These girls are awesome and are definitely a band to look out for. So much so that Rock The Bayou had them playing a set every day of the four-day festival. Speaking earlier of The Runaways (see review on Lita Ford), I was rather charmed by these ladies in the same way that The Runaways had gotten my attention decades ago.
Cockpit is a four piece, all female band whose music tends to border more on the rock sound of things than anything else. The band, consisting of guitar players Linda Lou (who is also the lead vocalist), Alicia Blu, bassist, Terrii Kiing and drummer, Rachel Rine, make it evident that their musical tastes and influence follow the likes of their heroes -
Guns ‘N Roses, Motley Crue and Judas Priest, as the heavy metal sounds shine through frequently,
This band’s mission statement is to rock - and rock they do. They are definitely not slouches when it comes to staying true to their word. Although they were wearing outfits that exposed lots of skin which obviously brought extreme pleasure to their mostly male audience, Cockpit also proved themselves to the few ladies in the crowd as well. The girls are definitely not just “foo-foo”, as they’ve put a lot of work into expressing themselves with songs that carry some very pointed messages. Highlights of their set were their theme song, “Mission To Rock”, “White Flag” and the nice guitar work on “Gun For Hire”.
