Black Stone Cherry :: Folklore & Superstition
Roadrunner Records
By The Atomic Chaser
When Black Stone Cherry blasted onto the scene with the 2006 self-titled debut release, that featured the thunderous rocker, "Rain Wizard", they proved that they would be a force to be reckoned with. Fueled by Chris Robertson on vocals/guitar, Ben Wells on guitar/vocals, Jon Lawhon on bass/vocals and John Fred Young on drums. This quartet has everything you could ask for in a Southern Rock band. So, I was quite curious to see what Black Stone Cherry would serve up with their highly anticipated sophomore release, 'Folklore & Superstition'. I will say the boys serve up a fantastic dose of deep fried southern hard rock. It's the kind of real rock album that you can totally sink your teeth into. The lead off single from the album "Blind Man" serves up notice real quick that Black Stone Cherry are back and they are taking no prisoners. It's gritty, raw, high energy that goes from the throat from the moment it shoots out of your speakers. "Please Come In" and "Reverend Wrinkle" continue in the same vein, with that perfect combination of heavy riffs that would make Mr. Iommi proud and Skynyrd's southern integrity. Then there is "Soulcreek" a great, Southern fried, beer raising anthem. So, how did the boys from Kentucky do the second time around? Hell, Black Stone Cherry passed with flying colors! No sophomore jinx here. 'Folklore & Superstition' rocks from start to finish and it's going to be great watching these guys grow musically over the next few years to their full potential. These boys are bringing back the days of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and Blackfoot while giving their own spin and vibe that is guaranteed to satisfy today's rock and roll masses.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
