The Sammies :: (self titled)
MoRisen Records
CD Review
By Kim Thore
The post punk sound of Charlotte based band The Sammies is an amalgam of influences - put Peter Murphy, REM, The Church in a studio with Lawrence Tolhurst producing and you may scratch the surface of this band’s incredibly diverse sound. Jangly guitars, a wall of spot on production and a garage back beat, The Sammies manage to capture the exports out of the UK circa 1984-1988 and put a fresh wash of audio paint over it to keep it simultaneously familiar and innovative.
This is music that has an overt craftiness about it with hooks in all the right places. Made up of, Frank Backgammon/ Guitar & Vocals , Donnie Yale /Drums & Vocals , Bobby Freedom /Guitar & Keys and Conrad Vacation /Bass , The Sammies are release the follow up to their self-titled release later this fall, and if the tracks on this cd are only a teaser of what is to come, it’s hard to imagine the possibilities. Plot The Sammies on your, “they have all it takes to make it” radar.
