Rage :: Carved In Stone
Steamhammer
By The Atomic Chaser
Only two years after the blasting last output "Speak Of The Dead" and one year after the impressive CD/DVD-set "Live In St. Petersburg", several tours and festivals, RAGE are back with their latest release, 'Carved In Stone'. Rage have an amazing history behind them and this band owes it all to Peavy Wagner, hell Peavy is Rage. He is one hell of a bass player and his vocals are what makes Rage what it is. Without Peavy's unique vocals, Rage could have never been what it is today. He has this high pitch sound and the ability to create killer growls and screams that in some ways are similar to the mighty Dave Mustaine. Now on the newer records, his voice has gotten fuller and meaner. 'Carved In Stone', is melodic, but not too melodic. It's heavy, but not too heavy. There are aspects of power metal, but it doesn't go too far in that direction. Essentially, it's a rock solid heavy metal album, which is exactly what I've come to expect from Rage. This is also the first Rage album released after long-time drummer Mike Terrana's departure, and while his absence is definitely felt, Silent Force drummer Andre Hilgers is a solid replacement. They're not offering anything new with 'Carved in Stone', but Rage is one of those bands where you don't really expect anything new. You pretty much know what you're going to get from a Rage album, and you're rarely disappointed. All the tracks rock with not a weak track among them. 'Carved In Stone' rocks start to finish, no filler all killer and comes highly recommended.
