Syrum :: Only Human
CD Review
By Lisa M. Knapp
Hard work pays off with Syrum’s first album. This band has 100% proved they are serious simply by getting farther than any other band I have crossed paths with and it only took them a year. This determined bunch took matters into their own hands, hired on a producer, took critical advice to heart and managed to make a sound of their own. They are ready for the rat race when it comes to the music industry and are taking full charge of what they want to do. Syrum’s members started out with a plan, spent the money, the time and are willing to put in the time regardless of the cost.
Consisting of members Simon Gagnon, Marco Bilich and Zach Gagnon, previously of Hamilton Ontario Canada based band Fatal Unity, they decided to take on a new project, which is when the lovely and breath taking Donna Krochak joined up. Krochak has a unique vocal sound that can be compared to Bif Naked and the bands intense and rockin guitar licks that can be compared to The Cranberries. Over all melding the two together makes a vibrant and exciting sound that makes Syrum.
A beautifully intense and grasping instrumental solo starts the album off on an attention grasping foot, making the listener wonder and want to hear so much more. Lyrically, this band takes a situation and makes it better with rough vocals and brilliant instrumentals. As they say, every album you ever listen to you have one song that stands out, for me, Another Day is the one.
With dreams to fulfil and a dedication that they all won’t give up, they are giving into the music industry with the hopes of making it big and one day have an audience filling their hometown Hamilton’s, Copps Coliseum.
