Candlebox :: Into The Sun
Silent Majority/ILG
CD Review
By The Atomic Chaser
Candlebox return after a ten year hiatus with, 'Into The Sun', featuring three of the four founding members. Front man, Kevin Martin, guitarist Peter Klett and Scott Mercado on drums with new member, Adam Kury on bass. I never really agreed with how they were lumped into the "Grunge" or alternative sound when they broke out in the 90's. Candlebox for me has and will always be a rock and roll band. 'Into The Sun' is not trying to reinvent anything, rather build off of a rooted past and take Candlebox into the new millennium. Listening to this album is like welcoming home a friend you haven't seen in awhile. As far as if the break hindered the band's sound, I think not. The band sounds better and hungrier than ever. The lead off single, "Stand" a built for speed rocker opens the album, showing that the band hasn't missed a step. The groove laden rocker, "Bitches Brewin", is up next, casting it's mojo and will stimulate your rock and roll juices, thanks to Peter Klett's amazing guitar work. Kevin Martin sings his heart out here, and you can really feel what he's saying on the powerful "Miss You", a song written for Martin's father and "Breathe Me In", which is an eight minute epic that gives off a Pink Floyd vibe. Each track is loaded with depth and each has its own distinguished voice in the overall flow. This CD kicks you in the stomach and knocks the wind out of you, that's how good it is. 'Into The Sun' is one of those albums you put on at any given time, and it will sound great each and every time. An excellent rock album, with an incredible mix of heaviness and melody. 'Into The Sun', can be summed up in one word, MASTERPIECE! Welcome back guys!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
