Harem Scarem :: Hope
Frontier Records
By The Atomic Chaser
Many melodic rock fans will attest to the fact that Harem Scarem is one of the all-time classic bands in the AOR melodic rock genre. Harem Scarem exploded onto the music scene in 1991 with their self-titled debut album. After 5 more studio albums, the band finished its 7 album deal with Warner Music and embarked on a new chapter of releasing records independently. A few of those recordings, included live recordings and a name change to Rubber, which was a stylistic change towards more power-pop influenced music. After 20 years of activities, Harem Scarem have decided to move on to other things. The band has decided to release one final record for themselves and their fans all around the world in the form of, 'Hope'. A release, which marks the final chapter, of a legendary band in melodic hard rock. This album is absolutely awesome. It's filled with 11 great songs from start to finish and jam packed with brilliant vocal melodies and outstanding harmonies that their fans have come to love and know. The production is top-notch. Actually, the production is perfect! Like with most Harem Scarem albums, I could rave about each and every track here. There is not a dud in the bunch. "Watch Your Back " leads off the album with an amazing guitar riff that breaks into vintage Harem Scarem melodies. "Hope", the title track is another fine song. "Dark Times" is another awesome, aggressive track. Also included is an acoustic version of, "Higher". It's a criminal shame U.S. radio never caught onto this group. If this is your first time reading about Harem Scarem and it sparked an interest, I highly recommend you check out the band's catalog. You know the old saying, better late than never. To Harry, Pete, Barry and Creighton, thank you for hours upon hours of enjoying your music through the years. You will be missed, but your music will live on in the hearts of your fans.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
