Techno Terence Trent D'Arby-esque :: Jimi E and the Moral Groove
Rocked out and funky, great pop.
CD Review
By Kim Thore
Such is the new CD by Jimi E and the Moral Groove entitled "Hypersoul".
Comparisons run rampant to where Justin Timberlake eventually evolved, so it is impressive that Jimi E is already there. The overall feel is velvety and luscious pop that is readily accessible.
Overall, the tracks are smooth renditions with a funky soul backbeat that stick in the groove. And kudos to anyone who has the chops to cover "Sign", and actually give it a new feel.
Hailing from Laguna Beach, CA and formed in 1998 by Jimi E and Gabe Rosales, these two have put together an impressive band and a CD of various genres that somehow at the end of track 10 seem to work as if they were always meant to be together instead of competing amongst the landscape of various styles.
On the whole, “Hypersoul” has international appeal with a mainstream coziness.
