Bands On The Rise :: The Bourbon Saints

By In the Streets JD

The Bourbon SaintsA little Bourbon Saints 101 for all of you not familiar with one of the greatest bands in LA today. This band started a little over 3 years ago out of the ashes of some of the top bands around. Playing in and around LA the Bourbon Saints have gained a reputation for putting on one full throttle rock show. They write songs catchy enough to please even the most biased person. Rock-n-Roll is a religion to The Bourbon Saints and it shows. The Bourbon Saints Roll call:

Arturo Trujillo is at the helm
STATS: front man extraordinaire, ordained reverend, Fire Breathing Preacher Man

Chuck Poquette
STATS: The Wizard of the guitar, bringing lead guitar back to the fore front of rock music

Nole Spicole Eldrige
STATS: Drums, vocals, songwriting, he is the Saints utility man

Albert Winkler AKA Shrew Taylor
STATS: new kid on the block, 2nd lead guitarist, brings even more creed to this band

Elvis Kennedy
STATS: rock star bass player hands down

Together they make an unbeatable team of Rockers that bring forth the best that the LA scene has to offer.

The Bourbon Saints have landed many articles in music publications over the past couple years including a recent Feature in Australian Musician Magazine! One of the biggest music publication in Australia and got a 2 page spread on our boys, how many LA bands can say that?

The Bourbon Saints have also seen some decent airplay both locally and abroad like Radio Basile in Roma Spain, plus their music featured in several adult features. They were on the Cleopatra Records comp “LA Underground Punk” available on iTunes. Yes, 07 was a busy year for the Bourbon Saints as well as playing out with bands like Bullets and Octane, Electric Frankenstein, The Adicts, plus local favorites Warner Drive, ADHD, and many others. The Bourbon Saints were also nominated in yours truly for:

2007 “Best Live Performance Group” All Access Magazine
2007 “Best Hard rock Group” All Access Magazine
2007 “People’s Choice Award” All Access Magazine

People are taking notice of The Bourbon Saints and for good reason. So what does this year have in store for these guys? Well, for starters they already played some amazing shows including a “‘sold out” performance at Safari Sams with Chelsea Smiles, Angel City Outcast and Electric Frankenstein.

The Bourbon Saints also played a frenzied set as direct support for LA’s Rock-n-Roll Jesters Steal Panther on St. Patty’s Day at the Key Club.

Other exciting news in the Bourbon Saints camp is, they have started recording their debut CD! The Saints have begun tracking at Sound City studios (Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, DIO…) a full length CD. I have heard some of the ruff tracks and already it sounds amazing, great things will happen when this CD hits! I for one can hardly wait to hear the finished product.

So do I have your attention now?

THE BOURBON SAINTS Thursday, June 12th @ the VIPER ROOM W/ THE BANGKOK FIVE!

So there you go another top notch band in LA doing their part to bring Rock-n-Roll to the masses. Don’t be a putz go out and support bands that deserve it. For more info, shows etc. check out MySpace.com/thebourbonsaints
