Slaughter
Club Madrid inside of Sunset Station, in Henderson, NV
Review and Photos By Valerie Nerres
Hometown boys, Slaughter, brought back 80's rock to Club Madrid inside of Sunset Station, in Henderson last night, Saturday, February 23rd. Selling out the show more than two weeks prior, there were people lined up outside with vintage concert T's, customized Slaughter license plates, old photos and others looking for extra tickets to get in. Slaughter has always had a very loyal following and to see them play at home to a sold-out show was an awesome feeling! Everyone was excited.
The line-up consisted of Mark Slaughter (Vocals), Dana Strum (Bass) Jeff Blando (Guitar) and Tim Diduro (Drums) Opening the show with "Wild Life" and then one of my favorites "Take me Away", it was one hit after another, with "Burning Bridges", then "Spend My Life", one of my all time favorite Slaughter songs. Right after "Mad about You", Timbo went into an amazing drum solo with fans screaming for more. He ALWAYS puts in 1000% and I LOVE watching him, one of those totally underrated drummers. After "Eye to Eye", they went into a medley of old Sabbath Songs, Heaven and Hell, with Mark going out into the crowd, so even the people in the back felt like they were up in front, I always liked that Mark does that always making sure
EVERYBODY gets a chance to be up close and personal.
The set was followed by "Livin Inside" and "Real Love", the club went quiet for 10 seconds in a moment of silence for friends that have passed before going into an amazing rendition of "Fly to the Angels", with none other than Slaughter original drummer Blas Elias sitting in, THAT in itself made the show! As fans haven't seen him behind the kit in a few years, it was great to see him again. Both Timbo and Blas did a dual drum solo that blew everybody away, adding fuel to the party fire. "It was a pleasure sharing the stage with Blas, he will always be respected and loved by Slaughter fans, it was nice for the fans in Vegas that both of us were a part of that night. My take on the show was that it was magical, it's such a privilege to work with Mark, Dana and Blando, I can really fell the raw energy and musicianship when were all on stage together, I love it, it's great." said Timbo after the show.
Another highlight of the show, personally as a bass player, was watching Strum go off on his solo, hair flying everywhere, fingers all over the neck of his signature white skull n crossbones white bass, it's the kind of energy that's absolutely contagious and makes you want to get up there and pound the crap out of the bass right there with him.
Definitely infectious, always puts a smile on my face. "Las Vegas, is my home for a reason, it F**king rocks! And there is truly no place like it in the world. I am so thankful to everyone that made it such a great, warm success" said Strum.
The set ended with their classic tune "Up All Night". All in all it was a very fun show, as Slaughter has always been one of my favorite bands, the sound seemed to be a little off though and they could do away with the fog machine which at various points made it almost unbearable to be up front. I was also a little disappointed that they didn't do the customary meet n greet that the shows at Club Madrid usually do for fans after the show. Small things in compared to the great show that was put on last night.
Club Madrid at Sunset Station continues it's 80's rock theme with upcoming shows: Vince Neil, Saturday, March 29th and Dokken, Saturday April 5th and Bret Michaels, April 12th.
