Skid Row
At Club Madrid - Las Vegas
By Valerie Nerres
New Jersey based Rockers, SKID ROW hit Las Vegas- Club Madrid (located inside the Sunset Station) January 11th for a sold out show. Kicking Ass, as they rang in the New Year! Normally I try and write a review immediately upon returning home from a show, because the memories and things that happened during the set are still fresh in my mind. But, after this show I actually needed a day to recoup. I had heard both good and bad reviews of the show, and have to agree to disagree with the critics for this show. It was awesome!! I left with a feeling that the band truly appreciated the crowd’s response, and were totally enjoying themselves.
Their current line-up consists of Johnny Solinger (vocals), Dave "The Snake" Sabo, Scotti Hill (guitar), Rachel Bolan (bass) and Dave Gara (drums).
With no opening band to warm up the crowd, we got thrown in face first to a Malay of fist pumping, high energy “rock n’ roll” starting out with “Making a Mess” a great way to start the show. Then going into “Piece of Me”, “Sweet Little Sister” and
keeping the 80’s nostalgia going with a great rendition of “18 and Life”.
Personally one of my favorites was “Monkey Business”, I set down my camera for that one and let loose. The Punk Rock version of “I remember You”, and also touching on new material with "New Generation" from THICKSKIN the bands most recent release. The band closed their set with their encore “Youth Gone Wild”. In my opinion Johnny Solinger did an amazing job and I wouldn’t hesitate to see SKID ROW again, anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
Afterwards the band did a “meet and greet” outside the club. They waited until the very last person in line got their photo and autograph. Now there’s a band that truly cares about their fans.
SKID ROW’s performance was dead on, seriously back into the music and perhaps one of the best shows I've seen in a while.
