Rick Springfield :: Christmas With You

DKE/Gomer Records

CD Review

By Susie Salva

Rick SpringfieldHo, Ho, Ho… spend the holidays with Rick Springfield on his new Christmas CD, “Christmas With You,” on DKE/Gomer Records. This beautiful, elegant and touching CD is the perfect gift for those on your holiday gift list. Springfield puts forth lovely versions of fourteen traditional holiday classics including, “The First Noel,” “Hark The Herald Angels Sing,” “What Child Is This?,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away In A Manger,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” “Silent Night,” and “Deck The Halls.”

The titled track, “Christmas With You,” is dedicated to all of the fallen soldiers in Iraq. Springfield’s refined vocals give us this touching tribute where he sings of freedom and the wish to be with your loved ones during this special time of year. The video for this song is available at: http://www.rickspringfield.com/cwy/cwy_video.html

This video features pictures of our fallen soldiers, compiled by the US military veterans organization American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. and all proceeds from this recording of this song are being donated to support the Gold Star Mothers.

“Hark The Herald Angels Sing,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem,” all feature striking choral arrangements that include a saxophone solo on the rendition of “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem.” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” has a exquisite string section while “Away In A Manger” has a pleasant piano interlude. “Carol Of The Bells,” is done completely with an electric guitar instrumental version. “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” has a Doo Wop vibe to it and “Deck The Halls,” rounds off the disc with the sounds like that of surfing legends the Ventures signature guitar riffs on this instrumental and saxophone laden track.

Springfield delivers a delightful holiday album and his generosity to the fallen soldiers is very endearing. The song is just perfect for this holiday season as the idea of peace on earth and good will to all men is present on this tune. His heartfelt renditions of these 14 classic Christmas carols will be an instant hit with his fans old and new.
