The chilly air definitely didn’t stop people from packing the Key Club to come check out the Chimaira’s show November 30, 2007. In all honesty, being the huge music fan that I am, this was my first hardcore show, and I enjoyed every bit of it. The energy that came from the fans and music quickly warmed things up.
The show opened with Divine Heresy, Terror, and Kataklysm, whom all put on a good show. One band heavier than the next, but the biggest bang was saved for last.
Chimaira came out with a sound that was bigger, badder and louder than anything I heard earlier in the evening. If anyone was put to sleep by Kataklysm, they were definitely woken up. They started the set with “Nothing Remains” and continued rockin’ with songs such as “Worthless,” “Pleasure In Pain,” and “Resurrection.” The pit was moving all night long with barely any time to rest. Mark Hunter’s inhuman growl echoed through the Key Club doors while Rob Arnold’s amazing riffs and guitar solos pierced through the heavy, thunderous beats of Andy Herrick’s drums.
Chimaira is by far one of the best hardcore metal bands out there. Some people may call it noise, but I call it beautifully arranged hardcore metal. While other bands sound like they should stay in the garage, Chimaira has a tight, heavy, and mature sound. They have been together since 1998 and have been rockin’ the scene ever since. Chimaira is currently finishing up their U.S. tour. For more information and tour dates, check them out at chimaira.com
