Liz Larin :: Stella 13 - When Soul Becomes Symphony

Bona Dea Music

CD Review

By Marie Baker

(Detroit, Michigan) - Liz Larin, electronic artist, songwriter, guitarist and singer, is writing and performing some of the most exciting and forward thinking music around, combining electronic/ambient with great song writing.  Influenced by jazz and techno music from her hometown of Detroit, Liz Larin works with combinations of grooves including bosa nova, bolero and tango, to create a unique sonic image of the sensual near future.

"I found myself looking for fresh new music that was sensual and ambient yet reflective of new grooves and decided to write and produce the music myself under STELLA 13," Larin explains.

Liz Larin is the composer and performer behind STELLA 13.  Live, her technically advanced solo performances are a marvel of electric guitar work, keyboards and amazing vocals.  To produce dreamy sonic landscapes, she builds guitar loops live, then plays and sings over them with a specially made baritone electric-guitar, called the 'Larin Baritone,' for deeply emotional effect.  Featuring some dazzling song writing, Larin plays with effects, computer produced rhythm tracks and world beat grooves, combining them with live electric guitar, guitar loops and vocals.  The result is sexy, fresh music appealing to those in search of cool sonic atmospheres.

Liz Larin's music performance includes a modern art installation produced by Brian Eno, and lyrics and poetry projected on the walls. It doesn't hurt that Larin's look is reminiscent of a dark-haired screen siren from a foreign flick, circa 1960's.  Refreshingly unaware of the attention of male and female admirers, Larin can be found inspired and fully focused in musical performance.

This multi-award winning musical artist has chosen a independent route for maximum creative freedom, choosing to record for Detroit imprint Bona Dea Music after her two releases on Atlantic Records, and is now producing the most exciting music of her career. Liz Larin's new musical project STELLA 13 is both original and assessable, and wonderfully steamy.  Keep your eye on this artist as she picks up the trail where the Detroit techno scene left off.
