Altamonte
By C. Colbert
After a summer of extensive touring and sold out live performances, New York's odd rock band; Altamonte retreated to The Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn to put the finishing touches on their much anticipated debut album. "We were planning on recording this winter" says vocalist/guitarist James Cashman. "but the fan reaction has been too strong to ignore. We have so many songs to record and it's really going to be difficult to decide which songs make it and which don't." The band has had great success on major radio with all four songs from last Summer's E.P receiving extensive airplay. Nic Hard (The Bravery) and Paolo De Gregorio (We are Scientists) will oversee production of the record. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of what will be out in stores in october.
As the first track swirled into earshot I began to take notice that even though this is a band that has been on major radio stations across the country, your still going to hear something original, and unheard of. "This Girl" opens the record with James Cashman ranting about love lost in his trademark style of a broken heart and a touch of psychosis as his circling guitar riff adds even more glue to the term "catchy". His brother Sean rips a distorted bass part that drops a very heavy hint that you just might listening to one of Rock's best new bassists.
Overall the record is suprisingly well balanced for a DIY debut record. There are some great singles and enough energy and style to suffice anyone. Nic Hard (The Bravery) and Paolo De Gregorio (We are Scientists) oversaw engineering. The album is slated for release on 10.31.07.
