Back Door Slam :: Roll Away
By The Atomic Chaser and The Rocker
Hailing from the United Kingdom’s Isle of Man, Back Door Slam is fronted by 20-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist Davy Knowles, and has already begun to develop a following in the U.S. via high profile performances at SXSW in Austin and the Beale Street music festival in Memphis. Back Door Slam take their name from the Robert Cray song, and Cray’s influence and that of other blues greats like Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Rory Gallagher, early Fleetwood Mac imbues their intoxicating, guitar-driven sound. The band's debut release, 'Roll Away' is a great blues rock album. Back Door Slam is about 10-20 years ahead of it's time. There is no band that sounds like them and few that play with this conviction! The band's debut, 'Roll Away' is a truely great CD, flawlessly produced, memorable songs well played and it in case of guitarist Davy Knowles, extremely well played. "Come Home", "Heavy On My Mind ", and "Gotta Leave " are all bluesy highlights. "Stay" is another fine number while "Takes A Real Man " is a catchier, more up-tempo track. As anyone who knows anything about music knows, the blues is the basis for so many of the best elements of rock and roll music. For sure, Back Door Slam blend exceptionally well on an album like this. Don't overlook this gem. I've never been a blues afficianado, but this is easily one of the best contemporary blues albums to get acquainted with before you move onto the masters and originators of blues. Back Door Slam are on the brink of something big and deservedly so. Get your hands of 'Roll Away', you won't be disappointed!!
