Sasquatch, HDR, House of Broken Promises
By In The Streets JD
Once again I find myself at Red Dragon Studios to check out bands. Red Dragon Studios is a great place to see bands up close and personal. Excellent sound and friendly staff make for an enjoyable outing.
The show tonight has been put together by none other than Rick Kosick. Photographer extraordinaire and video director who has worked on Jackass and other TV shows. It is good to see someone in Rick's position so active in the music scene.
Up first is the freight train of a band House Of Broken Promises featuring members of Unida!! Their sound is HEAVY as a warship and yet goes down smooth. Arthur Seay the bands guitarist is one of the top players around, period. His chops can cut through the toughest materials out there and his lead work pierces with every note. Eddie Plascencia bassist and lead vocals holds down the fort with drummer Mike Cancino. Don't get me wrong about Eddie and Mike just holding down the fort because they do way more than that. Eddies vocals rage through the music in an urgent way to get to your ears and make you believe his words mean business, while Mike's drum beats will give permanent damage to the week at heart. A must for anyone who craves their rock with a touch of metal.
Next were HDR! HDR... hhmmm... Hot Damn Rodeo... no, Heavenly Delicious Rice... maybe... I mean no... It’s High Desert Rock... They have been playing a lot of great shows recently and this one does not disappoint. The bands chemistry on stage has reached new heights it seems over the past few months. With lots of new songs and an eagerness to dig in and make waves Joe, Amy, and John are getting closer to the finish line and winning that prize. It is hard not to be drawn in to their infectious hard rock.
Next SASQUATCH is taking the stage and getting ready to bring their explosive brand of monster rock to the crowd that has pushed their way up front. Sasquatch has two CDs out on Small Stone Records. It is easy to see why this band just got back from SXSW. They have catchier songs than an airborne virus. Keith Gibbs sings with the tenacity of a southern Baptist minister and plays his guitar not as a instrument of any mankind make but as an instrument of his soul. His approach to music is in itself a religious experience. Taking on all disbelievers and converting them into devote Dirty Rock followers. This band has set the par for all in their genre. Their set contained songs from both records along with 2 exceptional Black Sabbath numbers, one being a favorite of mine "Fairies Wear Boots" to finish the night. Believe me when I say you will “Let It In” when seeing this band live. Truly a giant in the scene today. LA is Damn lucky to call Sasquatch one of its kin.
Check out all of these great bands:
