My Ruin Takes Over the Galaxy

By Yolanda Cota

My RuinI’ve seen My Ruin so many times I have lost count. And every performance seems to bring out the amazon in a woman, and this night was no different. Over the  years there has been quite a few line-up changes, starting with the departure of Meghan Mattox for the second time. Then came the sudden oust of Yael, who could have been the greatest female drummer I've ever seen. Next was their replacement drummer for Yael, Jason Brunk, then Matt Lechevalier; with Chris Lisee taking the place of Meghan. Then there was that faithful night which almost left Miss B without an arm, but thankfully, the latter did not happen. Through all that both Tairrie and Mick seem to be, no they are, the heart and soul of this band and they just won't quit.

How does Tairrie do it? Show after show she manages to not only wow the audience, but blow away the fans who have been there forever. Matt takes control of the drums that gives the music its heartbeat. Chris pumps out that bass like he was performing the Heimlich maneuver. And Tairrie, well, I just can’t say enough. Might I add that Mick Murphy can very well be the man who saves metal. His love for classic metal and the guitar makes his performances, quite honestly, AMAZING! Every time he has a solo it's like watching the process of music in the making. You think, I wish I could play like that!" My friends, you can, but not with the same style and validity as Mick.

The evening started off with a REAL girl’s anthem, “Made to Measure”. And one size does NOT fit all! Tell them Miss B. They hit us with three songs off their new album coming soon. “Momento Mori” was the emotional of the three, if that was possible. But they all sounded awesome and I can’t wait for the album to arrive. See, there is still real metal out there. The set also included “Stick It To Me”, “The Devil Walks” and my personal favorite, “Beauty Fiend”. When Tairrie said my name, I knew exactly what song it was. Sufficed to say I was in heaven. You have to love a musician who knows their fans by name. That’s just the most awesome and endearing thing a music lover could want; to be recognized by the artists who inspire them.

The night concluded with some chit-chat at their booth with the lovely and oh-so-friendly Alana, the merch girl. Each band member filed out to greet their fans and signed some posters. It’s great that this band has so much interaction with their fans and they appreciate it fully when they come out to the shows. And that, my friends, is why we’re dedicated Ruiners.
