ThundHerStruck opens up 2007 in Southern California
By Laura Phillips
After traveling internationally in the Balkans, Japan, Germany, and Belgium in 2006 in support for the military, ThundHerStruck started out 2007 with a bang at the January NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA promoting Electro Voice Microphones with a smashing performance of several acoustic sets. Winning three awards, including Best Tribute Band at the 2006 All Access Awards Show and putting out a full length CD, “You’ve Been ThundHerStruck”, along with being the opening act of “All Access Rocks Volume III,” the women of ThundHerStruck are continuing to add to their accomplishments, while still known around town as the ultimate AC/DC all-female tribute band. On Feb. 9th, Dyna Shirasaki (“Bon Johnson”), lead vocals; Tina Wood (“Angus”), lead guitar; Carin Toti (“Malcolm”), rhythm guitar; Andrea Zermeno (“Cliff”), bass; and Stephanie Leigh (“The Rudd-Ster”), drums, performed at one of the last live music shows at the trendy Santa Monica Night Club 14 Below. As it turned out, 14 Below is not going out of business totally but rather has been sold with the new owner turning the venue into a dance club. ThundHerstruck will be performing locally this month at the O.C. fairgrounds March 17th and 18th to perform at the “Quick Throttle Magazine Expo,” and then they will be returning to Germany at the end of March to perform at The MusikMesse in Frankfurt, known as the largest music convention in the world. After that ThundHerStruck returns home to perform at the “All Access Magazine” Children’s Hospital Charity event titled “The Bunny Hop” which is April 7th at Harpers Bar in Northridge.
One international trip for these ladies is not enough; either is a single trip to Afghanistan or Iraq to entertain the military troops. After two Afghanistan tours along with a journey to Iraq 7-4-04, another Iraq tour is planned this fall. Individually these women are strong and fearless as well as the live of the party. Dyna Shirasaki is a biochemist specializing in the study of Huntington’s disease, Tina Wood is a Luthier and guitar repair tech for several major top performers; Andrea Zermeno plays her bass non-stop and is also working with a Swedish guitar player on his original material. Tina Wood was also featured in the January issue of “Guitar World” as part of the Riffs column. Carin Toti and Stephanie Leigh are the party girls, and Stephanie is doing acting with a feature roll playing a mother of a five year old boy in the upcoming feature film titled, “A Switch in Time” which is directed by Aimee Galicia Torres and set to premiere at Universal Studios on 10-31-07. Break a leg Steph! You’re always full of surprises along with keeping ThundHerStruck fans happy by keeping up with the band’s hotline and e-mail. Stephanie Leigh also recently picked up two new endorsers, Warwick Drum Accessories and Symphonic Percussion.
Don’t wait for these women to leave the country again. While they’re traveling to the Middle East countries and beyond to support the troops; they’re also always there for “All Access Magazine” charitable events including Toys for Tots and Linda Blair’s World Heart Foundation for animal rights, along with finding time to compose an upcoming original song that will be done in the style of AC/DC. As long as ThundHerStruck is around, “Let There be Rock” is guaranteed with “A Whole Lotta Satisfaction.”
