Kylesa at Spaceland

By Scott M.

KylesaThere's a great new band on the scene that needs your attention now! They are Kylesa, and the group hails from Savannah, Georgia. What immediately sets Kylesa apart from the rest of their peers is the fact that they have two drummers. Watching them go at it onstage is quite the visual. Although not very technical in say a Mastodon kind of way, it's still a treat and a great asset. Without pigeonholing too much, Kylesa blend elements of Punk, Metal, Stoner Rock, and Pysychedelia all into one great heap. And with female guitarist/vocalist Laura Pleasants, it only adds to the appeal.

Opening up for The Hidden Hand this evening, Kylesa proceeded to blow the minds of the Spaceland faithful. Incredible energy mixed with outstanding songs made this a gig to remember. Cuts such as "Hollow Severer" and "Where The Horizon Unfolds" from their "Time Will Fuse Its Worth" album on Prosthetic Records, sounded amazing live. The final encore of their cover of Pink Floyd's "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" has to be heard to be believed. Great things should be on the horizon for Kylesa. They are another example of a hard working band doing it right. Kylesa are Corey Barhorst - bass, vocals. Phillip Cope - guitar, vocals. Laura Pleasants - guitar, vocals. Jeff Porter - drums. Carl McGinley - drums, noise. myspace.com/kylesa
