Deakon & The Forsaken Unity :: Self-titled EP
By Susie Salva
California native 17 year-old guitar virtuoso Deakon and his band the Forsaken Unity deliver a gallant effort with their self-titled four song EP. To be honest, I thought for sure that I was going to hate their music, but I must admit Deakon’s music is surprisingly refreshing. A combination of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, Deakon adds his own take with compositions that are incredibly tight, accurate and precise. His guitar playing is very melodic and memorable that you find yourself humming the tunes days after a good listen of the disc.
Sponsored by Minarik guitars Deakon is intent on making a difference in the music business. Unlike other instrumental guitar CD’s Deakon musicianship shines through using his Neo-classical technique melding his own unique take. A self-taught guitarist he makes no qualms or excuses about playing 80’s style of music. He utilizes intuitive leads with searing arpeggios. The strings literally bend on the first track “Contagious”.
The Forsaken Unity is comprised of Lillith Katz, The Elder, Mange, and Trent. Deakon definitely has his own style of guitar slinging. He is not afraid to put himself out there and see where the cards lie. He is influenced mainly by Neo-classical music, Progressive, Rock, Metal and Blues. Deakon is a force to be reckoned with and a player to keep your eyes on. He shred’s on the guitar, but puts forth melodies that linger.
