The Black Crowes :: Freak 'N' Roll... Into the Fog

American Recordings
CD Review

By The Atomic Chaser

Black CrowesRecorded live at the famous Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco in August 2005, this is The Black Crowes caught at their very best. While it does contain some of the lesser songs in their catalog like "Only Halfway to Everywhere" and "Welcome to the Goodtimes", these sound much better in the live setting. Standout cuts include the long jammy versions of "Soul Singing", "Hard to Handle", the aforementions "Only Halfway to Everywhere" and "Remedy". The whole disc is a treat. It closes with a great cover of "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down". What one hears here is the Atlanta-based group playing great, unpretentious Stones, Humble Pie, and Zep-influenced rock. This music was made for pure, visceral enjoyment, so play it really loud and dance around. 'Freak 'N' Roll... Into the Fog' is a great recording of one of the best rock bands to ever evole! One of the better live albums I've had the joy to listen to hands down. I just wish I was there! Recommended for those owning the group's catalogue; essential for everyone else. Go on then, get your hands on this CD and get your FREAK 'N' ROLL ON!
