Krokus :: Hellraiser
CD Review
By The Atomic Chaser
Krokus is still around and believe it or not, better than ever. They've learned the basic rock formula and worked it to it's fullest potential. "Hangman" employs a simple rock riff into a rather catchy tune about our unbalanced society. 20 years later and still haven't wavered from their sound or formula, and why should they. If it's not broke, DON’T FIX IT!! A lot of 80's bands putting CD's out nowadays have not figured that out yet. There's arena rock riff age a-plenty on "Fight On", accented by some bluesy pentatonic. Angus Young's influence is plastered all over the title track and "Too Wired to Sleep", simple power chords and three chord changes. There's only so many ways you can say a woman's pissed off, but Krokus has topped them all with "Turnin' Inside Out". At first I laughed at it, but now I can't get it out of my head. The high-energy anthem "Rocks Off!" closes out the album.Don't hesitate if you like AC/DC, Ratt, Dirty Looks, or old Krokus. You'll be pleasantly surprised to see this old Swiss band still has fuel and delivers the goods (in spades!). There can be great hard rock albums with substance but this is not one of them. This is just a ball’s out rocker and if that's what you are in the mood for then this is indeed one of the best!
