Yogi Celebrates his Birthday

At The Gig

By Laura Phillips

The legendary guitarist Yogi, (The Wallflowers, Buckcherry) recently celebrated his birthday at The Gig on route to London to tour. Yogi is gaining a buzz as a solo artist, and he played to a lively crowd of fans who were cheering him on and celebrating. Yogi still enjoys playing intimate venues and despite having played major international venues he remains humble. Yogi’s rocking performance and meaningful, emotional material indicate he’s currently at peace and happy playing and promoting his solo career. He has strongly built his fan base with over 39,000 views on myspace and over 6,000 friends, and next year he plans on submitting to the All Access Magazine Music Awards so look out for his new material. His debut solo was recently released on Sound Assembly Music, a strong Indie label. Appearances and showcases have recently been made at The Gig, On The Rox, The Hotel Café, Backstage Café, and at Burning Man 2006 presenting his original material and promoting his new solo debut artist release Metta in which he’s featured on both vocals and guitar. There was also a video shot in the Malibu Canyon for his feature song “Inside You.” Yogi’s British influenced guitar riffs range from psychedelic to electronic with strong backup from his band Dan Rothchild and Wes Wehmiller, bass; Nalle, guitar; Kris Pooley, keyboard; and Ryland Steen and Aaron Sterling, drums. Yogi’s influences are Gotama, quantum, physics, sunrise, Juice, good music, and equanimity. His new release has elements of his influences with the result being the good music that he likes. Yogi has shared the stage with Third Eye Blind, Kid Rock, Bonnie Raitt, Axl Rose, Slash, Sarah Mclachlan, Meredith Brooks along with touring with The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Kiss, Lenny Kravitz, and Korn. He also had the coveted honor of playing at the Jimi Hendrix exhibit with Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox. Yogi’s new solo career will take him far with international touring already undertaken. His career being a nice success story with continuous growing interest in his music spanning from his major label to independent works.
