FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS - Adam Beach, this story is of three of the six surviving servicemen, John "Doc" Bradley, Pvt. Rene Gagnon, and Pvt. Ira Hayes who fought in the battle to take Iwo Jima. There were five Marines and one Navy Corpsman photographed raising the U.S. flag on Mt. Suribachi by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945. The picture became one of the most famous images of the U.S. winning a battle during WWII. Three of the marines being killed in action the other three servicemen were taken out of battle and flown back to the states. The photo made these men heroes, and the government used these new heroes to promote the selling of war bonds on the War Bond Tour.

FLICKA - Allison Lohman, Maria Bello, Tim McGraw, Flicka remains true to the book, even if they made Flicka's owner a girl instead of a boy. The teenage girl with spirit who finds Flicka, a similarly spirited mustang befriends the animal. This film shows how a child growing up can be like a wild animal needing to be tamed and the trials the parents go though trying to live with this. I had a hard time seeing Tim as anything other then a singer.
