Summer of 2006 is gone, but not before holding one last “fun in the sun” benefit for a great cause with great value: Booties, Beer & BBQ, a fundraiser for Linda Blair’s WorldHeart Foundation. This event, sponsored by All Access Magazine, included a car wash to help raise money for neglected and abused animals. For only $5.00 you could have your car washed while enjoying live music inside a nearby club, or relaxing outside over a BBQ lunch.
From noon till 9 p.m. five bands donated their Sunday afternoon for this great cause, as well as Linda Blair and Denise Ames from the Rustam Report. The ThundHerStruck girls (the Ultimate All-Girl tribute to AC/DC) have come through for AAM on many charities and fundraisers we’ve sponsored. And even though it is a great cause just to be involved with, l really want them and ALL the bands involved in this fundraiser to know how much AAM appreciates their support on events like this. Also on board were Heart Brigade – LA/Ventura’s hottest tribute to Heart, the debut appearance of LadySmith – an all-female tribute to AreoSmith, Foxey Lady – an all-female tribute to Jimi Hendrix, and Auburn Court who lived up to their motto, “We rock because you rock” – and so they did! Thank you all once again for giving up your Sunday to help this great cause.
The day started off with Debra Stocker, Olivia Green and Mike washing some 45 cars in a parking lot, all in the name of helping
the animals. $5.00 got your truck or car to sparkle and all the while you could kick back and listen to some great music, or sit and enjoy a Texas-style BBQ lunch.
All donations – including a can passed around by Stephanie (drummer for ThundHerStruck) were given to Linda Blair that night for her WorldHeart Foundation. Isn’t it great to know that with your help, some the animals would be taken out of shelters and adopted, or perhaps just fed one more day!
Linda Blair, best known for her role as the young girl possessed by the devil in 1973’s “The Exorcist,” appeared that afternoon and took the stage. She stated that she “gave up her acting career in order to work full-time” for her non-profit WorldHeart Foundation (although you can catch her first TV appearance in years on “Supernatural,” Thursday November 9th).
Linda is asking us to be responsible pet owners by not breeding our pets, since there’s a serious pet overpopulation problem in our country. WorldHeart’s mission is “safe and loving animal adoption, animal care, animal welfare, and the relation of these topics to individuals' personal welfare, including lifestyle and healthy, non-animal dietary choices, to the public, through publications, lectures, and other means, and by making grants and donations to other non-profit public benefit organizations having similar aims and objectives.”
The animal shelters are full with four-legged friends that need our help! Many of them are cold, shaking, and depressed, knowing they could die anytime. Please STOP illegal dog fighting, STOP neglecting your pet, and get your pets neutered or spayed. STOP the animal abuse, and say NO to pet store and puppy mill puppies. ADOPT a dog and SAVE his/her life. All of these reasons add up to the crisis at hand, and what Linda calls “Born Innocent – An American Crisis.”
Animals are on death row and many of them need our help because the shelters can’t handle the overpopulation. Make a NEW friend and adopt a pet at any shelter! Or log onto Linda Blair’s website at www.lindablairworldheart.org. Help Linda help our four-legged friends. No donation is too small.
And remember that if you live in LA County and need help with arrangements for spaying or neutering your pets, contact the County at 1-888-452-7381 for further details. As Linda Blair states, “Stop dog fighting. Break the chains that bind.” Keep the caring spirit alive and well!
