CD Review
By The Atomic Chaser
Remember the band CITY BOY? What about STREETS? Maybe, STEELHOUSE LANE or SEVENTH SIGN? Okay, I'll get to the point. What all the aforementioned bands have in common, is guitarist Mike Slamer. Mike’s debut release, 'Nowhere Land', has your undivided attention once you hit play. Combining the best elements of AOR and progressive rock, classic surreal lyrics, and simple but captivating melodies, we are treated to a dream-like journey through a unique new musical style that will speak mostly to musicians through composition, if not technical difficulty. The magnificent producer and immaculate songwriter, Mike Slamer is joined on the record by none other than the extraordinary former STRANGEWAYS and THE SIGN singer Terry Brock. The result is nothing else than an essential find for all lovers of STEELHOUSE LANE and SEVENTH KEY, with a slight progressive and heavier edge. 'Nowhere Land’ is full of powerful songs. As is evident on tracks like, the melodic gems "Jaded" and the progessive mover, "Audio Illusion". What comes through first and foremost is the love for music that Mike Slamer has. It becomes evident in the song writing and the playing of his guitar, ensuring that no song on this CD is given the title of "filler." Each song is played to its fullest. Mik Slamer is an outstanding musician. I've always said that the best songs are written in a collaborated state and these guys were a group hungry for music. Brock's vocals shine and Mike Slammer is a frick'n genius. 'Nowhere Land' comes highly recommended. Old rock Hounds will love this. I did!
