CD Review
By The Rocker
When you think of modern electric blues guitar players, who do you think of? BB King, Eric Clapton, Robin Trower. Well there’s more than meets the eye. There’s one guy who’s been doing it for almost 40 years, but for some reason has flown under the radar, when in reality, he’s stratospheres above most players. His name is Gary Moore and he should have a place in the Rock’n’Roll hall of fame and the Blues Hall of Fame. He started when he was 16 years old in a band called Skid Row, who’s member Phil Lynott left the band just before they started recording. The two met up again later in a couple of variations of THIN LIZZY. Gary’s solo career started around 1979, leading up to his heavy metal blistering pyrotechnics of the 80’s. Then in 1990(?) his crossover break came when he went back to his roots. The single “Still Got the Blues’ from the CD of the same name, was a radio hit. Two years later another blues CD called “After Hours” was released. In 1994 he joined the other two members of CREAM, taking ERIC CLAPTON’s spot, calling themselves BBM. Next up was his tribute to FLEETWOOD MAC founder, PETER GREEN. After two rock CDs, he released “Back to the Blues”. In 2002 it was a rock trio and then in 2004 he released “Power of the Blues.” Which brings us up to date with his latest release “Old , New, Ballads, Blues.” Ten blues rock gems that fortify this Irish musicians place is blues guitar legend status. Two of the songs are remakes, one is a song he penned called “Midnight Blues” and the other is the Otis Rush standard “All your Love.” From the opening wah pedal cries of “Done Somebody Wrong”, to the classic story telling, guitar solo mastering of “I’ll Play the Blues for You”, this CD has it all. If you are a fan of the blues or you just want to hear a master play his instrument, then please, go out and buy the latest from Gary More and hear why he is one of the top ten living guitar legends of any generation or genre. Now if we could only get him to come to America, so we could experience this live.
