Grey Haven :: Grey Haven
Independent Release
CD Review

By Francisco H. Ciriza

Grey HavenGranite-hard monster riffs carve out the way for this band’s ultra-heavy sound. Reminiscent of the classic metal sound of earlier period pioneering artists of the eighties and nineties, Grey Haven’s songs swirl with methodical ease, yet, breathe freshness through unpretentious arrangements and approach. Built upon drummer Scott Schneider’s powerful style, and dual-guitar brawn, Grey Haven’s sound offers clearly audible and melodic vocals by the talented Matt Boehm. While some of the genre’s big names flaunt flamboyant bass playing, Kevin Chapman’s workman-like wall of thump is a key ingredient in the group’s overall deep magnetic groove. “Tides of War” exemplifies the group’s impeccable execution and ability to rock hard at a slower pace. “Slumber” acts as a history lesson recalling everything from classic Metallica to early Black Sabbath.
